When interviewing with startups or corporates, especially for a strategy role, you’ll often come across a case study. The case study will be similar to those from a traditional consulting interview with a few notable differences. Experienced consultants often fail due to lack of preparation. Unfortunately, being an experienced consultant does not necessarily correlate with your performance during these interviews.

What’s different from a traditional consulting case interview?

  • Less broad, more company focused: It’s unlikely that you will encounter questions that are unrelated to the industry that you’re interviewing for. 95% of the case-studies you receive will be from real-life challenges the company might be facing or have faced. The questions are likely to be aligned with the specific company and their business needs or within the industry you’re applying in.
  • The audience: Although it’s more likely your interviewers will be ex-consultants/bankers, they might not be. Therefore, you should be able to communicate your ideas in layman's terms.
