Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the lasting impact it will have globally, Hiperpool will be leading a series of discussions with industry leaders to understand how they plan to adapt their businesses during and after the crisis.

In the weeks since COVID-19 has taken over globally, the importance of the Telco industry has become clear. Whether it be ensuring that our businesses keep running from home, connecting us to our loved ones or supporting emergency services, telecommunications play a central role in our society. Hiperpool recently invited senior Strategy leaders from Telco companies across Europe to an online panel discussion, where they outlined how they will adapt to the challenges posed by COVID-19. Read on for a summary of the points discussed.

Initial revenue gains to be followed by a negative dip

Initially, telecommunications companies saw a spike in revenue as households upgraded broadband and TV packages. In Frankfurt, the leading Internet exchange saw a 50% increase in video conferencing while other Telcos reported a similar rise in voice traffic on landlines. The CEO of AT&T, Randall Stephenson, reported a 40% lift in daily mobile volumes and a 100% increase in wi-fi calls.
