Every day new research is published showing the benefits of diverse hiring and the impact it can have on your company. Diversifying your staff will encourage new ways of thinking and enable better problem solving as colleagues approach issues in different ways. One intersection of diversity is gender. Women are still over-represented in support functions and they hold only 29% of senior management roles globally.
Many of our clients ask how they can attract and retain women, particularly at senior levels. We sent out an anonymous survey to over 2000 women across our main geographies; United States, United Kingdom, DACH region and the United Arab Emirates. The majority of responses came from women working at corporates and within consulting then start-ups and a few from private equity/venture capital firms, non-profit organisations and education (Fig 1).
We wanted to hear directly from women in business about what would help them reach senior leadership positions. Below we will explore the results and share some additional findings provided in the “additional comments” section in the survey, and a few additional phone calls we carried out after the survey.
